How to Flash iSG Box SE with HomeClaw Firmware

This guide explains how to flash an existing iSG Box SE with HomeClaw firmware and convert it to the HomeClaw OS.

Important Notice

  1. Flashing the firmware will erase all data on the device. Back up your data before proceeding.
  2. HomeClaw is based on a customized Linux Server Edition without a desktop environment. All entertainment features from the previous iSG Box SE Android system will no longer be available.
  3. HomeClaw features can be accessed on the local network by browsing to the device IP address, such as 192.168.X.XXX, or homeclaw.local.

Preparation

  1. Prepare a dual USB-A male-to-male cable (USB 2.0 or above). The cable is sold separately.
  2. Prepare a small screwdriver or similar slim stick with a diameter under 2.9 mm, or a paperclip, for resetting the iSG Box.
  3. For Windows, download and install Rockchip Driver Assistant.
  4. For Windows, download FactoryTool.
  5. Prepare the HomeClaw OS image file.
  6. Prepare an MD5 checker and verify the image before flashing.

Flashing the OS

1. Open FactoryTool and select the image

  1. Unzip the utility software pack and open FactoryTool.exe.
  2. If the software is not in English, use the Language Selection button to change the language.
  3. Select Firmware, then select the OS file in .img format.

2. Start the flash process

  1. Click Run to begin the process.

3. Connect iSG Box SE in reset mode

  1. Insert the screwdriver or paperclip into the hole labeled AV and press the reset button at the bottom of the hole until you feel a click.
  2. While holding the reset button, connect the USB2 port on iSG Box SE to your PC using the dual USB-A cable. Only USB2 is used for firmware flashing.
  3. Once FactoryTool detects the connection and flashing starts, release the reset button.

4. Complete the flash

  1. Wait until flashing finishes.
  2. Disconnect the cable and power on the iSG Box SE.
  3. The device will now run the new HomeClaw OS.

After Flashing

After the device starts the HomeClaw OS, access it on the local network through its IP address or homeclaw.local. The previous Android entertainment features are not available in this HomeClaw installation.
