This eMotion Air Help Center article covers the product, supported connection paths, setup and pairing, sensor behavior, configuration, troubleshooting, and product resources.

1. Overview

1.1 What Is eMotion Air?

eMotion Air is a battery-powered smart presence sensor with 24GHz mmWave presence sensing, illuminance, temperature, humidity, and smart button inputs. It supports Bluetooth and Zigbee, can be added to the LinknLink App, and can connect directly to Home Assistant through Bluetooth or Zigbee.

1.2 Package, Sensors and Controls

The package includes the eMotion Air sensor, mounting bracket, mounting sticker, and button sticker. Install three AAA batteries with the correct polarity before setup.

The device includes an LED indicator, light sensor, presence sensor, smart button, mounting holes, temperature and humidity sensor, mounting bracket, and battery cover. The smart button is the lower half of the device.

  • Mounting: use the bracket, adhesive, suitable mounting holes, or tabletop placement according to the room.
  • Placement: face the sensor toward the intended area and avoid moving fans, curtains, direct heat sources, or other conditions that may affect readings.

2. Supported Ecosystems and Connection Paths

eMotion Air does not connect to every smart-home platform in the same way. Some platforms support a direct connection, while others require eMotion Ultra as a bridge.

2.1 Compatibility at a Glance

Home Assistant direct paths: eMotion Air -> Bluetooth -> Home Assistant, or eMotion Air -> Zigbee -> Home Assistant. eMotion Ultra is not required for either direct Home Assistant path.

Important: Bluetooth does not provide a direct eMotion Air to Echo connection. Direct Echo pairing requires Zigbee and a compatible Echo or Amazon hub with built-in Zigbee support.

2.2 Amazon Echo Devices with Built-in Zigbee Support

The following models are included in LinknLink's current compatibility reference. This is not an exhaustive lifetime list. Amazon may change model specifications, so check the exact model before pairing.

Model verification: Echo Dot Max is excluded from this published compatibility list until its official model name and built-in Zigbee capability are confirmed.

2.3 Common Echo Models Without Built-in Zigbee

Common standard Echo Dot models such as Echo Dot 3rd Gen, Echo Dot 4th Gen, and Echo Dot 5th Gen do not include the built-in Zigbee hub required for direct Zigbee pairing. Common Echo Show 5 and Echo Show 8 models may also lack built-in Zigbee; check the exact model.

If your Echo does not include a Zigbee hub, use eMotion Ultra for the supported Alexa integration path.

2.4 LinknLink App Connection

The LinknLink App connects to eMotion Air directly through Bluetooth. The App can be used to discover and add the device, view supported device status and sensor values, change supported parameters, and perform supported configuration or firmware functions.

Remote access through the LinknLink App requires a compatible LinknLink hub, such as eMotion Ultra. eMotion Air does not provide standalone cloud remote access by itself.

2.5 eMotion Ultra Bridge Path

eMotion Air can connect to eMotion Ultra through Bluetooth. The Ultra can then provide the supported bridge path for Alexa and Google Home, supported local Home Assistant workflows, and IR automation using the Ultra's own IR capability. eMotion Air itself does not include IR control.

3. Setup and Pairing

3.1 Switch Between Bluetooth and Zigbee Modes

Use the smart button to select the mode before pairing.

Press and hold for 10 seconds Enter Bluetooth mode. The LED stays on for about 1 minute and then turns off. Use this mode for LinknLink App setup or Bluetooth Home Assistant pairing.
Press and hold for 15 seconds Enter Zigbee pairing mode. The LED flashes for about 1 minute and then turns off. Complete Zigbee pairing while the LED is flashing.
LED turns off The device paired or pairing mode timed out. Start pairing mode again if setup did not complete.
LED flashes once The device is sending data or reporting a status change. No action is usually required.

Note: Bluetooth pairing can be performed while the device is in Bluetooth mode. Zigbee pairing must be completed within about 1 minute while the indicator is flashing.

3.2 Add eMotion Air to the LinknLink App

  1. Install or open the LinknLink App. Scan the QR code in the manual or search for LinknLink in the App Store or Google Play.
  2. Sign up or sign in to your LinknLink account.
  3. Put eMotion Air into Bluetooth mode.
  4. Tap Add Device and let the App search for nearby Bluetooth devices.
  5. Tap the eMotion Air device, choose a room, rename it if needed, and finish adding it.

If a configured LinknLink Bluetooth hub such as eMotion Ultra is nearby, the hub can discover eMotion Air for remote access and supported Alexa or Google Home workflows.

3.3 Pair with Home Assistant via Bluetooth

  1. Make sure the Home Assistant server has a working Bluetooth radio or supported Bluetooth proxy.
  2. Put eMotion Air into Bluetooth mode.
  3. In Home Assistant, open Settings > Devices & services.
  4. When eMotion Air appears under discovered integrations, select Add and complete setup.

Home Assistant can operate through this direct Bluetooth path without eMotion Ultra. Complete the initial device setup in the LinknLink App as described in the manual, then use the Home Assistant entities exposed by the active integration.

3.4 Pair with Home Assistant via Zigbee

  1. Connect a Zigbee 3.0 coordinator or stick to Home Assistant and set up a compatible Zigbee integration such as ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT.
  2. Put eMotion Air into Zigbee pairing mode. The LED should flash repeatedly.
  3. Open the Zigbee integration and select Add device.
  4. Wait for Home Assistant to discover and configure eMotion Air.

Home Assistant can operate through this direct Zigbee path without eMotion Ultra. Pairing must be completed while the device is in Zigbee pairing mode.

4. eMotion Air FAQ

4.1 How often does eMotion Air collect and report sensor data?

  • Illuminance: the default collection interval is approximately 30 seconds. The interval can be changed in the LinknLink App. Shorter intervals use more battery, and a measured change of approximately 10% or more can trigger a report.
  • Temperature and humidity: the default collection interval is approximately 60 seconds. The interval can be changed in the LinknLink App. Shorter intervals use more battery. A temperature change greater than approximately +/-1 C or a humidity change greater than approximately +/-10% can trigger reporting.
  • Battery voltage: the default collection interval is approximately every 5 minutes. Battery voltage does not use a separate change-trigger report; it is included in periodic reporting where applicable.
  • Presence: radar sensing is continuous. After activity is detected, approximately 1.5 to 5 seconds may be used to filter interference and confirm human presence. This is a typical reference, not a guarantee.
  • No presence: the factory default duration is approximately 3 minutes. The device reports no presence only after the configured duration remains continuously unoccupied.
  • Smart button: button events are real-time. Supported event types include single press, double press, triple press, and long press.

4.2 How frequently does eMotion Air broadcast in Bluetooth and Zigbee modes?

Bluetooth periodic broadcast is approximately every 20 seconds. Zigbee periodic reporting is approximately once per hour. Wireless packet loss may occur.

These periodic intervals are different from event-triggered presence reporting and from the collection intervals for illuminance, temperature, humidity, and battery voltage. Presence is not limited to one check every 20 seconds or every hour.

4.3 Why does changing the detection time not make person detection faster?

The configurable duration controls the transition from presence to no presence. It does not control the transition from no presence to presence.

For example, with a no-presence duration of 3 minutes, eMotion Air reports no presence only after no human signal has been continuously detected for approximately 3 minutes.

4.4 What does Environment Learning do?

eMotion Air uses 24GHz radar and may detect repetitive environmental movement from rotating fans, moving air-conditioner louvers, curtains, or similar sources. Environment Learning records the normal environmental signals and creates filtering areas for identified fixed interference.

  1. Ensure that no people or pets are inside the intended detection area.
  2. Leave the room in its normal operating condition.
  3. Start Environment Learning in the LinknLink App.
  4. Allow the system to record environmental interference and create the filtering area.
  5. Test the room again after learning is complete.

Warning: always run Environment Learning with the detection area empty. If a person is present during learning, that person may be learned as interference. A person entering a filtered area may then be harder to detect. Environment Learning can reduce false triggers, but it does not eliminate every false trigger.

4.5 Does eMotion Air support zone-based detection?

No. eMotion Air does not provide configurable multi-zone or zone-based presence detection.

4.6 Can I change the no-presence duration?

Yes. Add eMotion Air to the LinknLink App, enter Direct Mode or the device configuration screen, and modify the no-motion or no-presence duration using the current App label. The default reference is approximately 3 minutes.

4.7 Can I connect eMotion Air directly to Home Assistant?

Yes. eMotion Air supports direct Home Assistant connection through Bluetooth and through Zigbee. The LinknLink App is not required as a permanent bridge for normal direct Home Assistant operation.

Use the LinknLink App when you need supported functions such as changing internal parameters, firmware upgrade, or advanced device configuration. Not every device setting is necessarily exposed natively in Home Assistant.

4.8 Which eMotion Air parameters can be configured in the LinknLink App?

  • Sensitivity
  • Default no-motion or no-presence duration
  • Illuminance collection interval
  • Temperature and humidity collection interval
  • Illuminance thresholds or levels
  • Presence monitoring
  • Environment self-learning

Shorter collection or reporting intervals can increase battery consumption. After completing configuration, exit Direct Mode when appropriate so a high-activity configuration connection is not left active unnecessarily.

4.9 What is the eMotion Air detection range?

The maximum forward detection distance is approximately 5 meters. The detection angle is approximately 90 degrees horizontally and 100 degrees vertically. Actual results depend on placement, room geometry, and environmental conditions.

4.10 How quickly does eMotion Air detect human presence?

Presence sensing is continuous. After activity is detected, approximately 1.5 to 5 seconds may be used to reject interference and confirm human presence. Once confirmed, eMotion Air reports the event. The red LED may flash once when a status or data event is reported.

4.11 Which smart-home ecosystems does eMotion Air support?

eMotion Air supports the LinknLink App through Bluetooth, Home Assistant directly through Bluetooth or Zigbee, compatible Amazon Echo or Amazon Zigbee hubs through Zigbee only, Alexa through eMotion Ultra, and Google Home through eMotion Ultra.

4.12 Can eMotion Air connect directly to an Amazon Echo?

Only partially. Direct connection requires Zigbee and an Echo or Amazon hub with built-in Zigbee support. Bluetooth direct Echo pairing is not supported, and not every Echo includes a Zigbee hub.

4.13 Does every Echo Dot support eMotion Air?

No. Common Echo Dot 3rd Gen, 4th Gen, and 5th Gen models do not include the built-in Zigbee hub required for direct Zigbee pairing. Check the exact model, or use eMotion Ultra for the supported Alexa bridge path.

4.14 Does eMotion Air connect directly to Google Home?

No. Google Home requires the following bridge path: eMotion Air -> Bluetooth -> eMotion Ultra -> Google Home.

4.15 What does eMotion Ultra add?

eMotion Ultra acts as the Bluetooth hub or bridge for broader supported integrations, including Alexa, Google Home, supported local Home Assistant workflows, and IR workflows using the Ultra's own IR control capability. eMotion Air itself does not provide IR control.

5. Troubleshooting

5.1 LinknLink App Cannot Find eMotion Air

  1. Confirm that eMotion Air is in Bluetooth mode.
  2. Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on the phone.
  3. Confirm that the LinknLink App has the required Bluetooth permissions.
  4. Move the phone close to the device and reduce nearby radio or physical obstructions.
  5. Confirm that pairing mode has not timed out.
  6. Restart pairing according to the manual if needed.

5.2 eMotion Air Cannot Pair with Home Assistant

Bluetooth path: check the Home Assistant Bluetooth radio or proxy, confirm Bluetooth mode, reduce distance and obstructions, and review any stale previous pairing documented by your integration.

Zigbee path: check the Zigbee coordinator and selected integration, confirm the device is in Zigbee pairing mode, retry before the pairing timeout, and review coordinator range and mesh conditions.

For this direct path, use the selected Bluetooth or Zigbee integration and its documented pairing workflow.

5.3 Presence Detection Feels Slow

  • Approximately 1.5 to 5 seconds for human-presence confirmation can be normal.
  • The no-presence timeout is a separate parameter and affects presence to no presence, not initial detection.
  • Test the raw presence state in the LinknLink App or Home Assistant before reviewing downstream automation timing.
  • Check the sensor direction and intended detection area.

5.4 False Presence or Environment Interference

  • Check rotating fans, moving curtains, air-conditioner louvers, reflective surfaces, and adjacent-room movement.
  • Review placement, direction, and the useful detection area.
  • Run Environment Learning with the detection area empty and the room in its normal condition.
  • Remember that a filtered area may have reduced detection performance for a person entering that area.

5.5 Battery Drains Faster Than Expected

  • Review overly short illuminance or temperature and humidity collection intervals.
  • Review frequently changing reporting settings and environmental triggers.
  • Exit Direct Mode after configuration when appropriate.
  • Check battery quality and replace batteries when needed.
  • Check for an unstable Bluetooth or Zigbee path that causes repeated reconnects.
  • Remember that battery life depends on settings and usage; the stated maximum is not guaranteed for every room.
